Hungarian experience

An intensive week as artist-in-residence at International Glass Studio, Bárdudvarnok (Nemzetközi Üveg Alkotótelep) is over! I spent the week in Hungarian countryside creating art at the studio in small village of Bárdibükk. I definitely got new ideas to bring home. Here below some of the new pieces: Jonathan Swift’s Horse and Stressed out, made with glassblower James Carcass.

Danke schön!

Thank you Frankfurt and Tendence fair 2016! It was a good learning experience to present art in big design fair context and I was pleased to have future contacts, positive feedback and interesting talks with the fair visitors.

Here’s a picture gallery of the works I had on display:

Tendence, Frankfurt

Next destination: Frankfurt am Main, Germany! I’ll be presenting story-driven ceramic and glass design, all handmade in Finland! Welcome to see how mermaids, ghosts and fairy tales dive into the buzzing international fair center in sleek Frankfurt!

My stand can be found within Talents-exhibition in hall 9.0. The fair is open 27-29.8. 9am-6pm, on 30.8. 9am-5pm.

Ceramics for a change

I have been casting these ghostly mugs for Talents – exhibition at Tendence fair 27-30.8.2016 in Messe Frankfurt. So see you then, at Hall no. 9.0.!

As I decided to show stoneware besides glass at the fair, I’ve been casting clay, waiting it to dry, and making finishing touches in a lovely studio here in Tampere. Feels almost therapeutic making ceramics for change, you can not be too hasty with clay…

Summer shows

Some of the Firebird themed artworks have flown to Maila Talvio -salong in Hartola, central Finland. The summer exhibition opens on 8th of June, and the assembly presents paintings, sculpture -and glass- from several artists.

Summer exhibition at Maila Talvio – salong 9.6.-21.8.2016

Koskipääntie 4, 19600 Hartola

Open Tue-Fri 11-18, Sat-Sun

Meanwhile there’s some pretty hot stuff to be seen at Nuutajärvi, as Peep show – other realities – summer exhibition is also running. Next week I’ll be having too much fun and excitement as I’m traveling to Corning N.Y. and Glass Art Society’s annual conference. Sure to be inspired!

Tulintu teoksia on lennähtänyt Hartolaan, sillä ensi viikolla 8.6. aukeaa Maila Talvio -salongin taiteen kesänäyttely.

Building a Scene

The best way to start the new year is by getting fresh photos of last years artworks! These pieces, The Encounter, Hanging Tree and Let’s hide in the woods, play with the idea that a handcrafted glass piece projects surreal visions on the falls. Thanks to photographer Iiro Immonen, the scenes of light and darkness were captured in photos.

Project Graal 2012

In 2012 I was busy with my BA final work for Ceramic and Glass Design at Aalto University. These artworks are some of the results. The graal-glass-technique was new for me, and I approached it with a melancholical theme of drowning and diving in to deep waters.

The glass vases are all mouth blown at the university’s studio in Helsinki by glassblower Elina Piispanen. You can find a video of the making here:

This work above “Two faces of a drowned man” is featured in the European Glass Experience -touring exhibition. In March 2015 it will be included in an exhibition at Museo del Vetro, Venice.

These older works have been signed by name Ella Jaakkola.

Tulintu is a my project with fellow artist Sini Majuri. We are both using graal-technique and comic art influences as a medium for contemporary glass art. These are some of my works from spring 2014. The artworks in the pictures were made in Helsinki, Finland in co-operation with glassblower Katri Pankasalo.
