Käsityönä tehdyn lasin lumo Suomenlinna-museossa

Suomen lasimuseon kokoama kiertonäyttely juhlistaa käsityönä valmistetun lasin liittämistä Unescon aineettoman kulttuuriperinnön luetteloon. Näyttely kertoo käsityönä valmistetun lasin perinteestä ja suomalaisesta lasialan toiminnasta ja osaamisesta.

Suomenlinnassa on puhallettu lasia jo 1970-luvulla. Heikki Kallion aloittamaa studiolasitoimintaa on jatkanut Lasistudio Hytti, jossa on työskennellyt useita käyttö- ja taidelasin tekijöitä. Kiertonäyttelyä on täydennetty Heikki Kallion ja Suomenlinnassa 2020-luvulla toimineiden lasitaiteilijoiden teoksilla.

Workshop in Riihimäki

My work in process…

In early September I was participating in a workshop organized by the Finnish Glass Museum in Riihimäki. The workshop followed the opening of Back on Tour -exhibition of modern engraved glass in Europe. The exhibition is a real cornucopia of new engraved glass and I highly recommend to visit!

The workshop itself was instructed by glass artist and engraver master Wilhelm Vernim at the premises of Lasismi studio in Riihimäki. The gaffer of the workshop was glassblower Korbinian Stöckle alongside with Lasismi’s glassblowers. Week’s theme was Graal, which is fairly familiar to me, but I’ve still got a lot to learn on these engraving techniques. Many thanks to all for a great week!

Engraving machine and different lathes. Susanne Koskimäki’s sketches on overlay sheet glass in the middle.

My graal piece in the state of hot sculpting. I think I will title this work as Snake Orgy…
