Workshop in Riihimäki

My work in process…

In early September I was participating in a workshop organized by the Finnish Glass Museum in Riihimäki. The workshop followed the opening of Back on Tour -exhibition of modern engraved glass in Europe. The exhibition is a real cornucopia of new engraved glass and I highly recommend to visit!

The workshop itself was instructed by glass artist and engraver master Wilhelm Vernim at the premises of Lasismi studio in Riihimäki. The gaffer of the workshop was glassblower Korbinian Stöckle alongside with Lasismi’s glassblowers. Week’s theme was Graal, which is fairly familiar to me, but I’ve still got a lot to learn on these engraving techniques. Many thanks to all for a great week!

Engraving machine and different lathes. Susanne Koskimäki’s sketches on overlay sheet glass in the middle.

My graal piece in the state of hot sculpting. I think I will title this work as Snake Orgy…

Something small and modest this time, this asymmetrical tumbler received honorable mention in Finland 100 Glass Design Competition by The Finnish Glass Museum. The competition had two categories and this one was for serially produced memento item for Finland’s 100 years of independence. Happy birthday Finland and congratulations to all winners of the competition! To see all the artworks and designs, and the newest exhibitions, visit The Finnish Glass Museum in Riihimäki. 100 x Glass exhibition is running 12.5.-11.9.2017.
