Teardrop

Newest new artwork: Teardrop 2017. This piece is made with glassblower Dylan Katz in Tampere Finland. We made tests on rolling up engraved glass shards on hot glass and this one came out pretty neat!

Otherwise I’ve had bunch of good news, my artwork Tusks is featured in New Glass Review 38 by Corning Museum of Glass and next year I will be one of selected artist-in-residence at Finnish Cultural Institute in New York. Big city buzz and cultural overdose for small town girl in summer 2018- looking forward to that!

Little Viper and The Queen of the Vipers, 2017. Unique pieces, Graal technique, made in Riihimäki, Finland Photo: Iiro Immonen

The inspiration for the artworks comes from the universal myth of sacred forests. Drawings made of tree silhouettes, meadow flowers and bees collide with the imaginative world. Glass pieces are capturing images of sacred trees, imaginative spring rituals and sheer beauty of nature. All the artworks are mouth blown glass, made in Riihimäki, Finland. Welcome to the gallery, both to see the mythic glass art and videos of how they were formed out of hot glass.

Making of the new glass artworks has been supported by Arts Promotion Centre Finland.

Peep show in Nuutajärvi 28.5.-14.8.2016!

Oh dear, Nuutajärvi summer exhibition is just around the corner! This year the exhibition is titled Peep show! The artworks are shown in a box – where you need to peak in – and be surprised… The exhibition opens 28.5.2016 at 3pm in old factory building (Vanhan Hytin halli) and it will run until 14.8.2016. So proud to be among the artists at the famous glass village!

More info: www.nuutajärvi.fi

Lauantaina 28.5. aukeaa Nuutajärven Lasikylän kesänäyttely! Jänskättää olla mukana ja päräyttäviä töitä tuloillaan. Peep show – Toinen todellisuus näyttely rullaa 14.8.2016 asti, joten kesällä tervetuloa Lasikylälle tutustumaan.

Otherwise I’ve been hanging around much in Riihimäki.  My new artworks have been made at Mafka&Alakoski glass studio, at the premises of old Riihimäki glass factory. If you are visiting the Finnish Glass Museum nearby (the new Accident exhibition is superb) be sure to visit also the glass studios in old factory milieu.

Muuten on tullut hengattua Riihimäellä. On niin hienoa, että uusia teoksia on puhallettu henkiin Mafka&Alakosken hytissä. Hyttikorttelin pajoihin kannattaa ehdottomasti mennä tutustumaan.

Here’s a close-up of one of the new pieces of this spring, more pics coming up!

Project Graal 2012

In 2012 I was busy with my BA final work for Ceramic and Glass Design at Aalto University. These artworks are some of the results. The graal-glass-technique was new for me, and I approached it with a melancholical theme of drowning and diving in to deep waters.

The glass vases are all mouth blown at the university’s studio in Helsinki by glassblower Elina Piispanen. You can find a video of the making here:

This work above “Two faces of a drowned man” is featured in the European Glass Experience -touring exhibition. In March 2015 it will be included in an exhibition at Museo del Vetro, Venice.

These older works have been signed by name Ella Jaakkola.

Tulintu 2014

Tulintu is a my project with fellow artist Sini Majuri. We are both using graal-technique and comic art influences as a medium for contemporary glass art. These are some of my works from spring 2014. The artworks in the pictures were made in Helsinki, Finland in co-operation with glassblower Katri Pankasalo.
