Here are some pics from this summer. I have been working on some new artworks after the spring’s lockdown. As you all I am still a bit worried how the fall will be like- but at the moment I am just so happy to be at work.
Also worth mentioning, many thanks for Arts Promotion Center Finland for supporting artists through the tough times. I lately received their grant for artistic work, meant for designers and artists whose work and income had been effected by the lockdown.
Olen Nuutajärven NuGOssa vieraileva taiteilija kesäkuukaudet -esillä on mm. uunituoreita ja vaihteeksi Nuutajärvellä tehtyjä teoksia. Taiteilijatapaaminen järjestetään 6.7. NuGOssa, taiteestaan kertomassa allekirjoittanut ja keramiikkataiteilija Petra Jäppinen klo 12-14. Pst. kylän kesänäyttely on aikamoinen spektaakkeli, suosittelen tutustumaan.
I am visiting artist at NuGo gallery in Nuutajärvi, Finland for summer months. On 6th of June the gallery is holding meet-the-artist event with me and ceramist Petra Jäppinen, you’re warmly welcome! Also highly recommend to see the village’s annual summer exhibition!
I’ve been trying to update and brush up my website – which means many of my old blog posts have disappeared and I’ve been trying to go for sleek and static site. If you miss my old blog and website, the stuff can be found atellavarvioblog.wordpress.com
But now a quick look at this years events, palette of 2019’s events slowly building up:
NuGo Vieraileva Taiteilija kesä-elokuu : Guest artist at Nuutajärvi Glass Gallery June – August 2019. Nuutajärvi Glass Village is a traditional glassmaking site in Finland. Ella Varvio is visiting artist at Village’s gallery co-operative NuGo during summer months. Varvio’s art and design are on display at the gallery and there will be open lecture / demonstration. More info coming up!
Exhibition and auction at Bukowskis, Helsinki 16.6.2019
Art Gallery Rozendaal, Netherlands, 15.11.-22.12.2019 More information coming up, group exhibition in Southern Netherlands.
Gravur – group exhibition of engraved glass art, The Finnish Glass Museum 8-12/2019. More information coming up.
Some works from exhibitions have returned and it’s time to get studio photos. These dark, graphic, bold artworks were made for Nuutajärvi summer exhibition – and they present fleshy, somewhat unromantic sexual encounters. Back to animal instincts and so forth… I admit being doubtful with revealing this works, yet it seemed to pay off to merge explicit illustration together with crafted glass art.
These heavy glass pieces (black overlay colour, graal technique!) were made at Mafka&Alakoski glass studio in Riihimäki in co-operation with glassblower master Kari Alakoski. Photos: Joonas Tähtinen
Oh dear, Nuutajärvi summer exhibition is just around the corner! This year the exhibition is titled Peep show! The artworks are shown in a box – where you need to peak in – and be surprised… The exhibition opens 28.5.2016 at 3pm in old factory building (Vanhan Hytin halli) and it will run until 14.8.2016. So proud to be among the artists at the famous glass village!
Lauantaina 28.5. aukeaa Nuutajärven Lasikylän kesänäyttely! Jänskättää olla mukana ja päräyttäviä töitä tuloillaan. Peep show – Toinen todellisuus näyttely rullaa 14.8.2016 asti, joten kesällä tervetuloa Lasikylälle tutustumaan.
Otherwise I’ve been hanging around much in Riihimäki. My new artworks have been made at Mafka&Alakoski glass studio, at the premises of old Riihimäki glass factory. If you are visiting the Finnish Glass Museum nearby (the new Accident exhibition is superb) be sure to visit also the glass studios in old factory milieu.
Muuten on tullut hengattua Riihimäellä. On niin hienoa, että uusia teoksia on puhallettu henkiin Mafka&Alakosken hytissä. Hyttikorttelin pajoihin kannattaa ehdottomasti mennä tutustumaan.
Here’s a close-up of one of the new pieces of this spring, more pics coming up!
In past months I’ve been sketching new artworks. Can not wait to test the ideas! There’s at least two summer exhibitions coming up here in Finland: art exhibition in Maila Talvio -salong and legendary Nuutajärvi summer exhibition. And for a while I visited Riihimäki and the Finnish Glass Museum. How sheering to find familiar items in the permanent collection (piece from Comic Art in Glass and Wasteland there on the lower shelf)!
Yep, it’s not yet time for spring flowers here, but one can play with the thought…
